The Great Story
At the heart of this documentary is Father Thomas Berry’s experience of the universe as a cosmic liturgy. A Passionist priest and eco-theologian, Father Thomas Berry was a pioneer in the field of spirituality and ecology. He saw his life work as waking us up to the sacred story of the universe that he named the “Great Story”. Influenced by the works of Fr. Teilhard de Chardin, Fr. Berry stood in awe and wonder at the sacredness of Earth and was a faithful advocate for the environment.
Allow your eyes to be opened to the beauty of creation and the life and legacy of one of the great Catholic environmentalists of our time, Thomas Berry.
The Great Story has garnered several awards including The Silver Chris Award, Columbus International Film & Video Festival and Honorable Mention, Earth Vision Environmental Film Festival.
Sponsored by the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Committee of the Congregation of Bon Secours
As Sisters of Bon Secours we are both inspired and challenged by Pope Francis’ recent encyclical, Laudato Si’. We notice how closely the content of this document resonates with our mission focus statement and recent Chapter call to “promote the integrity of the environment and ecological health.” The films for our 2018 Eye-opener Series have been chosen with Earth in mind. It is our hope that they will inspire a new and closer relationship with Earth and the profound role we play during this time of growing environmental and social crisis. Join us for one, two or all three of the sessions and allow your eyes to be opened and your spirit inspired by the beauty of creation, gifted to us from our loving God.
There is also an optional dinner available before the film. You can arrive at 6pm and purchase a $10 dinner ticket from the Welcome Center. Please indicate this interest below when you register.
