Are You a Christian Worrywart?
Jesus asks us in Luke, chapter 12, “Which of you by being anxious can add one minute more to your life span?” He also instructs us, “Do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, nor about your body, what you shall put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.”
But the fact is, we do worry and we are anxious about many things, some big and some small. Is it really possible to live a worry-free life? Or are we doomed to be Christian worrywarts with all the demands on our lives? How many times do we hear in the Gospels the words, “Do not be afraid”? Is it sinful to worry and be anxious?
We will spend our day looking at what Scripture has to tell us about worry and anxiety, and how we might reign-in our worries and anxieties.
Our Friends Day of Prayer retreats are held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. Everyone is welcome to attend and you can drop into any month. It’s not required to attend every retreat. Everyone will gather for coffee and pastries for the first half hour. Fr. Harry will give a morning presentation, followed by Mass in the chapel, a delicious lunch, and then he will give an afternoon presentation. Free time will be offered to walk the labyrinth, spend quiet time in prayer or shop in the bookstore. Guided by Fr. Harry Geib, SJ.
Fr. Harry Geib is a member of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). Prior to entering the Jesuits, Fr. Harry did graduate studies in gerontology. As a Jesuit, Fr. Harry has worked with Jesuit Refugee Service in Thailand (Cambodian/Hmong refugees), in Malaysia (Vietnamese refugees) and in Uganda (Sudanese refugees).
